This week, UP Journalism Club, my org in CMC, is celebrating its anniversary week.  To lowlives aka members like us, this of course spells stress because we have to come up with and attend activities to make our anniversary week relevant not only to us but to other masscomm students as well.

I just finished ironing my polo for tomorrow’s event, a forum on libel, which I will be hosting.  (Come to think of it the last time I ironed my clothes was way back in high school.  Jeez!  Naalala ko bigla kung gano kahirap mag-plantsa, leche!)  I also just came from our poetry night at Maginhawa St., where Alamid also performed!  I was giddy excited about them because I love their song, Your Love, so much.  I also got a chance to recite Awit ng Pag-Ibig XX, Pablo Neruda’s Love Song # 20 translated in Filipino by Virgilio Almario.  When I got to the lines Hindi ko na siya mahal, people started reacting violently, obviously alluding to my recently-concluded relationship (naks, parang event lang.  haha).  But of course it doesn’t come with a But, for the next lines were ngunit minahal ko siya nang lubusan. Odiba may ganon.  Hahaha ang fun, naging stand-up comedy ang poetry reading ko.  =P

It’s been a while since I laughed so hard I almost fell from my seat!  Now I know that going into a comedy variety show with a slight sore throat can be VERY, VERY deadly.  All those performances were downright stressful and sometimes chilling to the bones!  All because… the performers are all professors from UP!  *gasp*

I mean… Chancellor Cao singing a ballad with a suit on, and 5 seconds later he’s wearing a Hagibis jacket and belting out Manila, Manila?!  Or… National Artists Bienvenido Lumbera and Virgilio Almario doing a showdown of brains and beauty wearing girly outfits?! (This really shocked the hell out of me, but it got me thinking how versatile these people could be, all in the name of fun!)  I sank very low to my seat when our dean, who was the proverbial fashionista in our college, walked down the aisle a-la Meryl Streep in the Devil Wears Prada (how apt!).  And then… Sir Jamon happened.  Director lang naman ng Unang Hirit… the lights went out (although no emergency lights were needed) and when it went back on we saw him going around the theater in just his underwear!  Ohmygulay.  What has this world come to?

In all fairness to our professors, I really enjoyed their performances.  It just goes to show how well-rounded UP Professors are, ready to let go of strictness and composure if it’s time to have fun.  Makes me more proud to be a UP student!

WordCamp PhilippinesGreat news to all WordPress fanboys out there.  The people from down south but not-so-down-under are organizing WordPress enthusiasts into an event aptly dubbed WordCamp Philippines 2008!  The event will be held on September 6 at the College of St. Benilde in Taft Avenue, Manila.  We’re so fortunate because the granddaddy of WordPress is paying us a visit on September 6!  Yes!  Matt Mullenweg himself!  Geezus!

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty much excited about this event.  It’s touted to be one of the biggest events this year because, admit it, most blogs out there run on a WordPress engine.  I hope I get to learn a lot of things through this camp, especially how to make my own WordPress themes.  I vowed to learn that last summer, but unfortunately time didn’t permit me to swim my way through all those complex codes and whatnot.  This September, hopefully, hopefully… (more…)
