June 18, 2008 marks the 100th founding anniversary of our beloved university. Want to make it a bit more memorable and exciting? Here are two calls for students and alumni to participate in the commemoration of our 100 years of greatness (ehem) and, well, existence.

1) UP@100: Capturing 100 UP Moments

A group of UP bloggers put up this activity to commemorate the Centenary of UP. Here’s more information:

Along with a group of UP bloggers, we have come up with a special project for the UP Centennial Month this coming June. It’s called “UP@100: Capturing 100 UP Moments – It is a Music Video Project which will compile 100 photos and videos from participants consisting UP alumni and students. It aims to capture 100 unique UP moments from 100 different points of view in the past 100 years of the University’s existence.

We are inviting YOU to join us in this endeavor.

Mechanics: How to submit an entry

I. Who can participate:

  1. Any University of the Philippines alumni.
  2. Any University of the Philippines student.

  2. Each entry should have the the following information:
    • Name
    • Student Number

  5. The deadline for submissions is on June 19, 2008. A day after the UP Centennial Anniversary (so that photos from the centennial celebration could be included).
  6. The launch of the video will be on June 26, 2008 on all the organizers’ blogs.
  7. A microsite will be created for the project where all (part of the 100 or not) the submitted photos & videos will be posted in sync with the video launch.

Here are more UP@100 coordinators: Coy, Juned, Benj, Fritz, Ederic, Poyt, Karla and AJ.

We are very excited in this project and I hope many of you can join! Looking forward to your great UP moments! :)

DISCLAIMER: The UP@100 Project is in no way related or connected to the official Centennial Activities of the University of the Philippines. This is a volunteer effort and project by several UP students and alumni.

2) Hail! UP Oblation!

If you’re the one with guts and happens to be male at that, you may want to join this rather daredevil-ish activity at the crack of dawn on the university’s centenary. Hmmm. Oblation Run’s a little early this year, huh? Or should it be Oblation Stand? Hmmm… that didn’t sound right. Heh.

Calling all male UP students and alumni! If you think you’ve got what it takes to pose for pictures wearing only a fig leaf, then come apply for a spot in “Hail! UP Oblation!”

You could be chosen as one of the lucky 100 men from all walks of the University who will pose for a photo op on the break of dawn on June 18, replicating the figure of the Oblation monument. Professional photographers from various media organizations, both local and international, will be covering the event, and the best shots will be featured in the UP Centennial Coffee Table Book.

Don’t miss this chance to go down in UP history!

No age or height limit! You just have to have enough guts to show off those abs for all the world to see.

It’s very easy to apply. All we need is a picture of you wearing short shorts or trunks. Apply now!
