If you have already read Paolo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”, one of the key verses there about success stipulates that “When you are willing to achieve something, then the whole universe will conspire with you to achieve it.”

Murphy’s Law, on the other hand, states that “Everything that could possibly go wrong will go wrong”.

That is so true! It dawned on me this morning. It’s like a domino effect of bad things, one after the other.

First, I woke up at 6am, which is pretty much not my normal waking hour. My mom got a bit mad at me because she was trying to wake me up for about an hour already. Second bad thing, when I looked in the mirror, I’ve got eyebags as huge as golf balls. Third bad thing, I had a hard time looking for a jeepney to ride on, as I was a bit late already. Fourth bad thing, as I was a bit late already, I managed to go street-to-street with the Garbage Truck, which not only fumed the air with nauseous gases, but also caused major traffic. Fifth, the jeepney seemed like it would need a tune up, as its engine stopped two times in the middle of the road. Imagine that, two times! Then, fortunately, after all that mishaps, I managed to get to school on time. Just in the nick of time…!

Well, having that not-so-good jumpstart in the morning, I would like to revise Paolo Coelho’s philosophy and re-mix it with Murphy’s Law. Friends and Countrymen, behold, the pessimist’s Law:

“If you want to do something, but fate doesn’t want you to, then the whole universe will conspire with fate to make sure it doesn’t happen.”

How sad. BTW, it’s still a law even though it only applies to me (as far as I know, I don’t know, what do you think? Does it apply to you, too?) Bow.
